I myself was falling in love by the end of the book. I also parted ways with an accent. This was a lovely quick read. A perfect beach book that was satisfying to read. Lady Jane and Edward made a cute couple. The intro to the book would lead one to assume the story would have been full of more umm juicy details but that was not the case. The book remand proper and clean. I myself would have preferred more of the juicy details but that's just me. I felt the character development could have been better. I think all the characters brought in were great but I felt a little more story on each would have been nice. This also would have extended the length of the book. It was a good read regardless. As the title my elude the story does take on a bit.of a Beauty and the Beast vibe. Mostly on the fact that Lady Jane is stunning and Lord Edward has burn along his face. That's for the most part where the similarities end. All and all the book Beauty and the Beastly Earl by Regina James was a good story. My favorite part took place with the seamstress and Lady Jane. She really put her in her place. I love Jane's fiery spirit.Tags : Beauty and the Beastly Earl: A Fairytale Retelling (Book 2) - Kindle edition by Regina James. Beauty and the Beastly Earl A Fairytale Retelling Book 2 edition by Regina James Romance eBooks Reviews
Lady Jane Manson has returned, with her own story! Her stepsister, Evelyn, has found happiness with the Duke, but Jane can't help being kind of jealous. She wants what they have, so when a letter from her vile mother is delivered, claiming that she is on the brink of death, Jane returns to London to be with Lady Cecilia in her last moments. Meanwhile, Edward of Christoph is poised to acquire his earldom, except he must marry before he is able to claim his inheritance. If he doesn't take a wife within a certain amount of time, his horrendous brother, Derek, receives the financial windfall. However, is there anyone who could ever learn to love a beast? Yes, I know I'm paraphrasing Beauty and the Beast, but I can't help it. What if Edward found the most unmarriageable woman in the kingdom to marry him because she would be so happy to be financially well-off that she won't worry about the scarred left half of his face? Enter lady Jane, a penniless, kind-hearted, gorgeous 17-year-old who sees past Edward's physical appeariance immediately. The trouble is, Edward can't understand why someone as beautiful as Jane could possibly accept him. Misunderstandings galore ensue as both Jane and Edward try to figure each other out.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys slightly altered fairytales, no matter their age. Warning some spelling errors, but they don't keep you from enjoying the story.
Edward's father has passed away and has left Edward as the reigning Earl with all the responsibility and holdings (including a large bank balance) that come with that title. There's just one problem. The Earl must find a bride and marry within 90 days or all of the estate and its holdings go to his cousin – a betrayer and a scoundrel. Edward is sure that no one could love him for who he is because he was horribly disfigured in a fire accident several years ago and barely escaped with his life. So, resigned to his task, he sends his brother and best friend to go find him the most un-marriable woman in London. Lady Jane is beautiful but disgraced and she is sure she will never find a husband due to her fall from societies grace – all caused by her mother's selfish and brash actions. But, she has vowed to herself that she will not fall prey to hard and bitter feelings and she will find a way to fend for herself rather than rely on her sisters handouts. When Edward's brother comes to London and meets Lady Jane, he knows that she is perfect for Edward. She's strong, yet kind, graceful, charming and plucky. Everything Edward needs to keep him completely enthralled with her. But, can he get Edward to let down his guard so that he lets Lady Jane see his true self rather than behaving like the beast he has fashioned himself after? This story is a new take on an old tale and told in a lovely fashion. Filled with perfect period references and peppered with great conversations, it's sure to make you read it from cover to cover in one sitting. And, there's always hope that the beauty will see beyond the surface to find the wonderful man behind the Beast.
Such a sweet story.
— A couple of hours read
—Well written with a steady forward pace
—Hooks are subtle creating the challenge to continue turning the pages what had Lady Cecilla done to discredit her daughters doubling their unworthiness in the London ton for brides. What was the Earl’s true reason for the clause in his will? When Fenn discovers his true lineage, will his heart turn bitter? His countenance greedy? These and more questions as you flip through the story are answered as graciously as the love story of Beauty and the Beastly Earl.
Regina James writes a psychological story steeped with issues of self-confidence/worth and the grace of compassion. A strong underlying theme to the story, is looking past the superficial flesh, the "Skin Deep" to discover the true identity of a person. How emotions stirred by beauty run only skin deep and are ofent mistaken for genuine love. But in this interpretation of a beauty and her beast, once again an author brings out the best in humanity. What starts out as the Earl’s obligation to comply with his father's will, and Lady Jane’s dour dowry, slowly, through fourteen chapters, transform a man longing for love and a young woman with a pure heart finding what they most desire…true love.
I like the short chapters, always the illusion of a fast read and enough hooks woven throughout the story to hold your interest. Never mind you know how the story will end. James holds reader interest through good characterization and plot sweet and simple. The antagonist, Edward, the Earl of Christophe is the only character developed from his self-loathing to self-worth.
Good read on a lazy afternoon or in my case, waiting hours for the train to take me home.
My favorite phrase …he spread the blanket to the soft grass
